Carman Moore

Carman Moore has commissions and performances to his credit by the N.Y. Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Dayton Opera Company, and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, among others.
The Skymusic Ensemble, which he founded, composes for, and conducts, has been featured at La Scala in Milan, has performed frequently at Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival, and was for a decade Artists-in-Residence at New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine. His multimedia MASS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY was commissioned by Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors and premiered in 1994 before audiences of thousands. Moore's works for dance include those for Alvin Ailey, Anna Sokolow, Ruby Shang, Garth Fagan, Mark Dendy, Cleo Parker Robinson, and tap choreographer Brenda Buffalino, among others. Carman Moore has taught at the Yale University School of Music, Queens and Brooklyn Colleges, Carnegie-Mellon University, and Manhattanville College, where his musical CLUB PARADISE was premiered in 2006. Also in 2006 his score to Sophocles/Heaney's THE BURIAL AT THEBES was performed at La Mama Theatre. Moore's string trio BLUE...RED...GREEN was premiered in 2007 and performed at MoMA's Summergarden. He has recently completed a concerto for saxophone legend Ornette Coleman and his 7 MEDITATIONS ON TIBET was recently premiered at Adelphi College.
Mr. Moore is presently at work on WHITE HOT BLACK SPICE, a musical set in 1917 New Orleans in collaboration with OyamO and Donald McKayle.
A noted writer on music, Mr. Moore for many years wrote criticism for The Village Voice, N.Y. Times, and other prominent publications. Carman Moore has just received a Civitella Ranieri Fellowship to work in Umbria, Italy May and June 2010.
